Ebubekir Sifil was born on 25 December 1960 in the district of Sarıkamış, Kars. After completing his primary and secondary education in Sarıkamış, he graduated from Kars Imam-Hatip High School and specialized in hadith and fiqh. He is a Turkish theologian, author, and academic who has continued his academic career with the title of professor.^【1】

In 1978 he enrolled at the Kâzım Karabekir Education Institute of Erzurum Atatürk University and in 1980 transferred to the Ankara Gazi University School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He graduated in 1985 from the Department of Journalism and Public Relations.^【2】

Sifil pursued his graduate studies at the Faculty of Theology of Selçuk University, completing his master’s degree in 1996 and his doctoral degree in 2006. Within the academic hierarchy he served as an assistant lecturer between 2012 and 2016, was appointed associate professor in 2017, and was promoted to professor in 2021.^【3】

Between 1989 and 1993 he worked as a publication editor within the Turkish Religious Foundation. From 1993 to 1996 he served as a research assistant at the Faculty of Theology of Yüzüncü Yıl University and from 1998 to 1999 at the Faculty of Theology of Osmangazi University. Since 2012 he has been a faculty member at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences at Yalova University, where he served as head of the discipline between 2019 and 2021 and again between 2021 and 2024. Additionally, between 2014 and 2018 he taught as a part-time instructor at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University.^【4】

His literary career began in 1989 with articles published in various journals including Girişim, Kitap Dergisi, İlim ve Sanat, Semerkand and Rıhle. Between 1999 and 2000 he wrote daily columns for the newspaper Yeni Mesaj and between 2000 and 2013 for Millî Gazete. In his media activities he was a regular guest on the TVNet channel’s program "İlm-i Hâl" between 2011 and 2012 and has appeared in numerous radio and television programs.^【5】

His scholarly work focuses on the critique of modern Islamic thought hadith studies and sectarian issues. Under the series "Critique of Modern Islamic Thought" he has analyzed the views of figures such as Yaşar Nuri Öztürk and Fazlu'r-Rahman. In addition to his doctoral thesis "Hz. Ömer and the Prophetic Sunnah" he has authored numerous original works including "Sana Din’den Sorarlar" "İstikamet Yazıları" "İslami Bilincin İhyası" and "Ehl-i Sünnet Akaidi". He has also translated Muhammad Zâhid al-Kawthari’s work "Makâlât" from Arabic adding extensive annotations.^【6】

He has contributed to the Türkiye Diyanet Vakfı Islamic Encyclopedia in the fields of hadith and fiqh. Within this scope he authored a total of fifteen entries or sections including "Hâcet Namazı" "Ka‘de" "Kıraat" "Kıyam" "Zâhid Kevserî" (Fiqh section) "İlâü’s-Sünen" and "Zafer Ahmed Tehânevî".^【7】

During his academic career he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses including "Hadith I-II" "History and Literature of Hadith" "Texts of Hadith Methodology" and "Hadith in Shiism". Among the master’s and doctoral theses he has supervised are topics such as "The Justice of the Companions" "The Impact of Globalization on the Family" "Hadiths Not Included in Imam Malik’s Muwatta" and "The Influence of Sufis on Hadith Fabrication".^【8】

Between 2012 and 2019 he continued his scholarly activities at the Sahn-ı Seman Center for Islamic Sciences Education and Research established under the Islamic Sciences Education Research and Service Foundation (İSEGAH). Under this center’s umbrella he conducted multidisciplinary research and educational projects.^【9】
