Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf Üniversitesi (FSMVÜ) was established in Istanbul in 2010 through the merger of five endowments under the General Directorate of Foundations of the Republic of Türkiye. These endowments are: Fatih Sultan Mehmet Han Vakfı, Sinan Ağa bin Abdurrahman Vakfı, Nurbanu Valide Sultan Vakfı, Hatice Sultan Vakfı, and Abdullahoğlu Hacı Abdülaziz Ağa Vakfı. Alongside Bezmiâlem Vakıf Üniversitesi, it is one of two universities affiliated with the General Directorate of Foundations. Its establishment was formally approved by a decision of the Foundations Council dated 25 August 2009 and Law No. 5981 dated 15 April 2010.
The Fatih Sultan Mehmet Han Vakfı, dated 1471, forms the institutional foundation of the university. This endowment, originally established by Fatih Sultan Mehmet to preserve Hagia Sophia and support educational activities, serves as the historical basis for the university’s academic structure. As a nonprofit endowment institution, the university continues its higher education activities. Its philosophy is summarized by the slogan “Values Matter!”
Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University defines its mission as cultivating individuals capable of critical thinking and social responsibility and conducting scientific research. Its vision is to become an institution providing educational services and conducting research at a global level.
The university comprises seven faculties, one vocational school, and two institutes. It has a student population of 7,787. The rector is Prof. Dr. Nevzat Şimşek and the Board of Trustees Chair is Mevlüt Uysal. There are 339 academic staff and 229 administrative staff employed across academic units.
The university aims to train mid-level personnel to meet sectoral needs. Students receive theoretical and practical education in the following programs: Packaging Design, Computer Programming, Information Security Technology, Biomedical Device Technology, Child Development, Shadow Teaching for People with Disabilities, Traditional Handicrafts, Visual Communication, Air Logistics, Interior Design, Court Office Services, Architectural Restoration, Fashion Design, Office Technologies and Data Management, Cybersecurity, Civil Aviation Cabin Services, and Tour Guiding.
The university offers a total of 26 Master’s and 14 Doctoral programs through two institutes.
