Karacaoğlan Literature Museum Library

Karacaoğlan Literature Museum Library is a museum library located in Mestanzade Neighborhood, Seyhan district, Adana province. The museum was established by transforming a historic building known as the “Dişçi Ethem Mansion.” The mansion was registered as a cultural heritage site by the Adana Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board on January 30, 1992, and was expropriated by the Adana Metropolitan Municipality on April 3, 2007.

Architectural Features

The building, used as a residence for many years, is notable for preserving much of its original architectural details. It is one of the authentic examples of traditional civil architecture in Adana. After the roof and chimney were damaged in the 1998 earthquake, restoration works were carried out with great respect to the original texture of the building.

Museum Library Model

Karacaoğlan Literature Museum Library is part of the literary museum libraries project initiated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2010. In this model, cultural heritage buildings are restored to provide readers with an environment where they can read books, conduct research, and participate in events within a literary atmosphere.

Collection and Works

The museum houses 96 periodicals and approximately 5,000 materials. Photographs, works, and personal belongings of writers born or living in the Çukurova region are exhibited. The collection includes works of many authors such as Yaşar Kemal, Orhan Kemal, Muzaffer İzgü, and Ümit Yaşar Oğuzcan, as well as books about Karacaoğlan and calligrapher Etem Çalışkan’s poetry paintings.

Cultural Contribution

Karacaoğlan Literature Museum Library functions not only as a reading space but also as a cultural center hosting artistic events, talks, and scientific meetings. The museum aims to preserve the literary heritage of the region and pass it on to new generations, making significant contributions to Adana’s cultural identity.
