Mersin Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium built in the Yenişehir district of Mersin on a place site for the 2013 Mediterranean Games. With a capacity of approximately 25,534 spectators, stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the games and subsequently became the home venue for Mersin İdman Yurdu’s home matches space.
The Mersin Stadium, constructed on a 55,000 m² area on, features a distinctive modern design. The stadium’s exterior façade takes the form of a dynamic shell composed of lightweight membrane and steel structures. The interior design incorporates a two-tiered tribune structure and includes 54 skyboxes and premium chair areas.
Constructed in accordance with FIFA and UEFA standards, the stadium uses high-quality artificial grass. The playing surface is reinforced with an under-soil heating system, making it resilient to varying weather conditions. Designed to maximize the viewing angle for spectators, the stadium is also planned to host diverse sports events including concerts and exhibitions.
Located on GMK Bulvarı, the stadium provides easy access to the city city center. The transportation infrastructure has been developed to reduce traffic congestion and includes a 1,295-vehicle parking lot and 46 bus parking spaces. Additional bus stops have also been integrated into the project to support public transit.
Mersin Stadium stands out as one of the city’s important landmarks, both for its architectural design and functionality. Even after the Mediterranean Games, the stadium continues to be actively used, contributing to Mersin’s sports and culture life.
