Oktay Kaynarca is a Turkish theater, film, and television actor. He was born on January 27, 1965, in the Hekimhan district of Malatya, Turkey. His mother’s family is from Elazığ, and his father is from Malatya. He spent his childhood years with his grandmother in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul. Kaynarca completed his formal education at the Istanbul University State Conservatory, Department of Theater, and began his professional career on stage before transitioning into cinema and television.
Oktay Kaynarca completed his secondary education, first at Üsküdar High School and later at Hopa High School. Before university, he worked for a time as an electrical technician at a Fiat factory. During his university years, he appeared on stage and acted in TRT television series. His first stage experience was with Ege Tiyatrosu.
In 1991, Kaynarca appeared in the musical Kan Kardeşleri at Tiyatro Stüdyosu. He later acted in the 1993 production Derin Bir Soluk Al, which earned him the Best Supporting Actor award at the Avni Dilligil Theater Awards. In 2015, he played the lead role in the play Guguk Kuşu, staged by the Çolpan İlhan–Sadri Alışık Theater.
Kaynarca made his television debut in 1989 with the TRT series Gençler. He subsequently starred in numerous TV series. His portrayal of Süleyman Çakır in Kurtlar Vadisi (2003–2004) gained widespread recognition, with the character’s on-screen death prompting public commemorations. From 2015 to 2021, he played the lead role of Hızır Çakırbeyli in the long-running series Eşkıya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz.
He hosted the programs Salı Sefası on TV8 and Türkünü Söyle on ATV. In 2000, he co-produced the TV movie Yarın Geç Olmayacak with Meral Okay. He also released a poetry-themed spoken word album titled Ölümden Öte Köy Yok.
In 2012, he married advertising professional Melek Angun, but the couple divorced in 2013. A street in his birthplace, Hekimhan, has been named after him.
