Real or Fake?

About halfway through the film I was watching, I stopped and began to reflect. My intention was quite simple: to take a short break and refresh my mind with something that motivated me. But the film I encountered, Kiralık Aile, offered me far more than I had expected. That is why I am now sitting here writing this piece.

The film left a deeper impression on me than I had anticipated; it seemed to whisper quietly to emotions I already possessed. In particular, a line from the film kept replaying in my mind: “Sometimes all we need is for someone to look into our eyes and remind us that we exist.” At first, it sounded like an ordinary sentence. But upon reflection, I realized how profound it truly is. Don’t we all, at times, desire exactly this? Aren’t we constantly chasing after it? To be seen, to be felt, to be understood…

The film tells the story of an actor who begins working for a rental family agency. This man steps into the lives of others, assuming roles such as father, spouse, or friend; he briefly offers them the love, attention, and sense of being seen that they crave, and in turn, people feel somehow whole. Just as we do in our world of possibilities.

Almost everyone I have spoken to so far has their own hypotheticals. Sometimes we construct sentences like “If only my life had been this way, then that would have happened.” Perhaps in these very moments, within the possibilities we imagine, we briefly feel whole through artificial emotions. That is why we must step out of the world of “what if” and accept reality. Genuine emotions, however difficult they may be, are always more valuable than artificial ones...
