Separatist Attacks and Military Operations in Pakistan’s Balochistan Province (February 2026)

Between the end of January and the beginning of February 2026, events in the Balochistan province of southwestern Pakistan emerged as a conflict process characterized by coordinated attacks carried out by separatist armed groups and large-scale military operations conducted by Pakistani security forces in response, unfolding simultaneously across security, political, and public order dimensions.

Operation Black Storm

Starting on 30 January 2026, a large-scale attack campaign was launched in Balochistan under the name Operation Black Storm by a separatist group. At the outset of the incident, a widespread wave of attacks erupted across southwestern Pakistan’s Balochistan province. Separatist organizations carried out numerous coordinated armed attacks and suicide bombings throughout the province, targeting police stations, security checkpoints, high-security prisons, and civilian infrastructure. During these actions, at least 33 people were reported killed, including both civilians and security personnel. The separatist groups framed these actions as part of Balochistan’s resistance against state authority and its demand for autonomy.

In the immediate aftermath of the attacks, security forces announced that they had killed 92 militants; this figure was confirmed later the same day by military sources, revealing the intensity and coordination of the clashes. It was noted that some militants operated as suicide bombers in civilian areas, contributing to the high casualty count.

During this period, it was reported that civilian populations in surrounding settlements were targeted, with intense fighting occurring in schools, markets, and other civilian zones. Some militants were observed moving in civilian clothing, using human shields. This tactic forced security forces to adopt more cautious intervention strategies and restricted the use of heavy weaponry.

Following the onset of the attacks, Pakistani security forces announced that their large-scale counteroperations had resulted in the deaths of 145 militants. At this stage, it was stated that the clashes had reached a peak intensity lasting 40 hours, with a comprehensive operation conducted against the militants, resulting in the deaths of at least 31 civilians and 17 security personnel during the attacks.

Ongoing Security Operations Against Separatist Activities

As of 1 February 2026, the Pakistani army and security forces launched a widespread arrest and elimination campaign under the codename Sprüche against separatist activities in Balochistan. According to reported information during this period, 177 militants were killed across the province, with operations described as highly coordinated and conducted within a clear military strategy. This number reflects the cumulative militant losses in recent days and underscores the extreme intensity of the operations.

It was alleged that some of the militants targeted in the operations held leadership positions within the organization, and this was emphasized as an effective counterstrategy aimed at degrading the group’s attack capacity. During this time, tensions in the province remained high, security protocols were intensified in certain areas, and the public was reported to be responding to safety alerts.

Four-Day Military Operation in Balochistan (30 January – 2 February)

According to Anadolu Agency sources, during the four-day operation, security forces neutralized 177 militants in southwestern Balochistan. The report noted that the operation was part of an ongoing broad security effort, with over 80 attack incidents recorded in Balochistan, accompanied by casualties. It was also reported that injuries occurred among both civilians and security personnel during this period.

Based on these figures, it was observed that during the four-day operation, not only were militant losses significant, but the frequency of attacks also increased, and the overall security situation in the province became increasingly fragile.
