
Serkan Çayoğlu was born on 31 May 1987 in Germany to a Turkish family. A German citizen, Çayoğlu graduated from the Department of Economics at Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen, Germany. During his university years, he began modeling.
After deciding to pursue an acting career, he moved to Istanbul where he received professional acting training at Ümit Çırak’s Modern Acting Techniques Workshop, working with Ümit Çırak and Dolunay Soysert.
Çayoğlu’s acting career began in 2012 with his portrayal of the character Rafael in the season finale of the series Kuzey Güney. He appeared in the series Beni Böyle Sev between 2013 and 2014. In 2014 he joined the cast of Zeytin Tepesi and gained recognition for his portrayal of the character Ayaz in the series Kiraz Mevsimi the same year.
In 2016 he took on the role of Demir Cerrahoğlu in the series Hayatımın Aşkı. In 2018 he portrayed the character Kaya Ülgen in the series Börü. In 2019 he appeared in Halka and in 2020 in Yeni Hayat. Between 2021 and 2022 he played the characters Bereli, Ankaralı and Ali İhsan Cenkeri in the series Bir Zamanlar Kıbrıs / Kıbrıs: Zafere Doğru.
In 2024, Çayoğlu portrayed Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror in the TRT 1 series Mehmed: Fetihler Sultanı. In preparation for this role, he worked with historical advisors and underwent training in horseback riding, sword fighting, spear handling, and archery. He extensively consulted historical sources, books, articles, and documentaries to inform his performance. He also underwent an intensive preparation process to understand the psychological dimensions of the character.
Çayoğlu portrayed the character Serkan in the Netflix production Aaahh Belinda and the character Hakan in the film Oregon. He also appeared in Hande Yener’s music video for the song “Ya Ya Ya”.
Serkan Çayoğlu married actress Özge Gürel on 1 January 2022.
