THE COLOUR OF PARADISE (FILM)

"The Color of Paradise" (Cennetin Rengi) is a 1999 film directed by the renowned Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi. Originally titled Rang-e Khoda, this masterpiece tells the story of Mohammad, a visually impaired boy.

The film explores Mohammad’s complex relationship with his father and his profound connection with nature. His father’s shame over Mohammad’s disability and view of him as a burden form the core of the dramatic conflict. At the same time, Mohammad’s way of perceiving the world through his senses and soul adds a profound spiritual dimension to the film.

The film stands out with its natural beauty, human emotions, and powerful visual storytelling. The fact that Mohsen Ramezani, the child actor portraying Mohammad, is himself visually impaired, along with Alireza Kohan-Deyri’s music incorporating sounds of woodpeckers, water, and wind, contributes to the film's authenticity. Furthermore, its intricate depiction of rural, village, and urban life details enhances its narrative depth.

From another perspective, the film narrates Mohammad’s journey through life and his search for God. One of his lines encapsulates the central theme of the story:

"I will touch everything with my hands until I find God, and when I do, I will reveal all the secrets of my heart."
