Historical Development

The story of the Toyota Supra began in 1978 under the name “Celica Supra.” The first generation was designed as a larger and more luxurious version of the Toyota Celica and was equipped with a 2.6-liter inline-six engine. The second generation, introduced in 1981, enhanced its performance with a 2.8-liter engine and was marketed under the name "Celica Supra."

In 1986, the third-generation Supra became a standalone model, fully separating from the Celica. This generation stood out with innovations such as a turbocharged engine option and the electronically controlled suspension system (TEMS).

The fourth-generation Toyota Supra, introduced in 1993, was equipped with the 2JZ-GTE engine. This engine gained a large following due to its high modification potential. Produced until 2002, this generation gained increased recognition in popular culture through its appearance in The Fast and the Furious movie.

Technical Structure and Equipment Development

The technical evolution of the Supra was shaped by significant innovations in each generation:

• First Generation (A40/A50): The 2.6-liter inline-six engine produced 112 horsepower. It was equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission.
• Second Generation (A60): The 2.8-liter engine reached 145 horsepower. Features such as electric windows, central locking, and automatic climate control were introduced.
• Third Generation (A70): The 3.0-liter engine produced 200 horsepower. Turbocharged versions and the TEMS system were introduced.
• Fourth Generation (A80): The 3.0-liter 2JZ-GTE engine provided 320 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque. Its 0-100 km/h acceleration time was 4.6 seconds.
• Fifth Generation (A90): Introduced in 2019, this generation was co-developed with BMW. The 3.0-liter turbocharged engine produces 340 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. Its 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 4.3 seconds.

Design and Brand Identity

The design of the Supra has been shaped by sporty and aerodynamic lines in each generation. The fourth generation stood out with its aggressive front design and wide rear spoiler. The fifth generation, inspired by the Toyota 2000GT, carried traces of the past with its long hood and dual-bulge roof.

Inside, the driver-focused cockpit design and high-quality materials combined performance and comfort. Modern features such as the 8.8-inch digital display panel and JBL sound system enhanced the driving experience.

Production and Global Distribution

Although the Supra is manufactured in Japan, it has a wide following across the globe. It has particularly seen high demand in the American and European markets, and with its fifth generation, it was reintroduced to the global market in 2019.

As of 2025, it has been announced that the production of the Supra will come to an end, and a special "Final Edition" version will be released in limited numbers. This model stands out with its 429 horsepower engine.
