Adopting the name "Turbo" Theo meets a group of street-racing snails and with their leader Whiplash he earns a chance to compete in the Indianapolis 500. Turbo marked David Soren’s directorial debut. The idea originated from Soren’s son’s fascination with snails and the notion that a fast-moving snail could be a humorous character. The film was produced at DreamWorks Animation’s studios in Glendale California and the animation process took approximately four years.
