Yozgat Çamlığı National Park is a natural conservation area located in Turkey’s Central Anatolia Region, south of the city center of Yozgat. It is one of the first areas in Türkiye to be designated as a national park and is distinguished by its rare black pine forest community within steppe ecosystems.
Declared a national park in 1958, Yozgat Çamlığı originally covered an area of 266.9 hectares. The area was later expanded to 517.33 hectares, reflecting efforts to enhance the park’s natural resource value and recreational potential. Its selection was influenced by the presence of an old-growth black pine forest within the Central Anatolian steppes and its role as a model among protected areas.
The Anatolian black pine (Pinus nigra Arnold subsp. pallasiana) growing in the park can reach ages of 400 to 500 years according to measurements and is known in Türkiye only through individuals in this location that produce seeds. Additionally, 212 species from 144 genera belonging to 43 plant families have been identified within the park, including approximately 30 endemic species. The forest interior is also rich in fauna, supporting populations of mammals, birds and reptiles in their natural habitats.
