📚 Where Did This University Come From?
The story of Siirt University began in 1976 with a small educational institute whose goal was to train teachers. In 1982, the Siirt Vocational School of Higher Education was established. Over time it grew and expanded… until in 2007 it transformed into a large university. This is how Siirt University came into being!
🧑🏫 Who Is in Charge?
Every school has a principal, and universities have administrators called “rectors.” Siirt University has had many rectors over the years, each of whom launched projects, opened new faculties, and created a positive environment for students to advance the university further.
🏫 What Does the University Offer?
The university hosts 10 faculties, 4 vocational schools, 3 colleges, 3 institutes, and a total of 19 research centers! This means research is conducted on a wide range of topics—from animals to plants, from technology to history. More than 19,000 students study here. And the faculty? There are many of them too—professors, associate professors, researchers—all sharing knowledge with students.

Siirt University has an excellent library with a long but meaningful name: Prof. Dr. İhsan Süreyya Sırma Central Library. It houses over 60,000 books. At this university, learning does not stop at lectures—scientific projects are actively developed. Collaborations are maintained with major institutions such as TÜBİTAK and the European Union.
