Silifke Atatürk House Museum (Mersin)
Silifke Atatürk House Museum is a private building where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, once stayed. The transformation of a house into a museum demonstrates the significance of the person who lived there. Have you ever wondered why it is so important to see the places where a leader lived? This house is an important structure that shows us how Atatürk lived as a citizen.

How Did the House Become a Museum?
This two-story building was constructed in 1914. On 27 January 1925, during his first visit to Silifke, Atatürk spent one night in this house. In 1982, our state acquired the property to preserve its historical importance. Acquisition means transferring ownership to the state. After restoration, the house was opened to the public as the "Atatürk House and Ethnography Museum" on 2 January 1987.

What Is Exhibited in the Museum?
One section of the museum is dedicated to personal belongings of Atatürk and documents related to his visit to Silifke. The furnishings of the bedroom where he spent the night and his dining sets are displayed here. Additionally, documents and photographs concerning Atatürk’s instruction to purchase a farm in Silifke and establish a cooperative are also exhibited. A cooperative is an arrangement in which people come together to engage in joint activities and support one another.
In another section of the museum, ethnographic objects of historical significance from the region are displayed. These artifacts help us understand the daily life, traditions, and arts of the people who lived in Silifke and its surroundings in the past.
