79th British Academy Film Awards, officially known as the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards, is the 79th edition of the annual ceremony hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) to honor films released in 2025. The ceremony took place on 22 February 2026 at the Southbank Centre Royal Festival Hall in London.
The 2026 ceremony was hosted by actor, writer, producer and television presenter Alan Cumming. At the awards, the film “One Battle After Another”, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, won the award for Best Film.
Award Process and Voting System
The BAFTA Film Awards voting process consists of three rounds.
- First Round (Longlisting): Determination of longlists
- Second Round (Nominations): Determination of nominations
- Third Round (Winners): Determination of winners
The longlisting system has been in place for the fifth time as of 2026. Its purpose is to increase visibility for more films during the early stages of the awards process.
The first round of voting took place between 5 December 2025 and 5 January 2026. The second round began on 9 January 2026 and ended on 20 January 2026. The third round of voting occurred between 28 January and 17 February 2026, with winners determined by the results of this round.
BAFTA has a membership system of 8,300 professionals in the United Kingdom. For the first and second rounds of voting, categories were evaluated by respective Chapters and juries. Chapters consist of BAFTA members who are experts in their respective crafts.
Juries are composed of BAFTA members with diverse roles, experience levels, age groups and geographic backgrounds. The third round of voting is conducted by BAFTA’s full voting membership.
