More than 13,000 wildfires have burned 116,000 hectares across France since the beginning of the year, with firefighting efforts continuing in several regions, particularly Gironde. During the country's worst wildfire season on record, two firefighters were killed and more than 220,000 people were evacuated. France has activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism to request international assistance, while drought, extreme heat, and strong winds have prompted authorities to raise wildfire alert levels across numerous regions.
