As part of Europe’s second-most prestigious club competition, the 2024–25 UEFA Europa League quarter-finals were organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). Eight teams competed in home-and-away fixtures for a place in the final four.
Matchups and Second-Leg Fixtures
All second-leg matches kicked off simultaneously at 22:00 (TRT) on 17 April 2025, following the initial legs played earlier that month.
Manchester United vs Olympique Lyon
The first leg between England's Manchester United and France's Olympique Lyon ended in a 2–2 draw in Lyon. Goals for the home side came from Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette, while Manuel Ugarte and Leny Yoro found the net for United.
The return leg, played at Old Trafford on 17 April, saw United take a 2–0 lead before halftime through goals by Ugarte in the 10th minute and Diogo Dalot in first-half stoppage time. Lyon responded in the second half with goals from Corentin Tolisso (71’) and Nicolas Tagliafico (78’), bringing the score to 2–2 at the end of regular time—identical to the first leg.

In extra time, Lyon pulled ahead with goals from Cherki (105’) and Lacazette (penalty, 110’), making it 4–2. However, after Tolisso was sent off in the 89th minute, Manchester United capitalized on their numerical advantage. Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty in the 114th minute, Kobbie Mainoo equalized in the 120th, and Harry Maguire scored the winning header in the 120+1st minute. The match ended 5–4 on aggregate in favor of Manchester United.
This was the first UEFA Europa League match to feature five goals in extra time. Maguire’s goal was also the first winning goal ever recorded in the 120+1st minute of the competition.
Athletic Bilbao vs Rangers
The first leg between Spain’s Athletic Bilbao and Scotland’s Rangers ended in a goalless draw at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow. Rangers played most of the match with ten men after Robin Pröpper was sent off in the 13th minute.

In the second leg, played at San Mamés Barria on 17 April, Athletic Bilbao secured a 2–0 win. Oihan Sancet opened the scoring with a penalty in first-half stoppage time, and Nico Williams added a second with a header in the 80th minute from an assist by Óscar de Marcos. With a 2–0 aggregate win, Bilbao reached the semi-finals.
Rangers defender Rıdvan Yılmaz was forced to leave the match in the 23rd minute due to injury. The team also made adjustments due to the absence of injured center-back Leon Balogun.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Eintracht Frankfurt
The first leg in London ended in a 1–1 draw. Tottenham’s goal was scored by Hugo Ekitiké, while Frankfurt equalized late in the match. Tottenham struck the post twice and were denied further goals by multiple saves from Frankfurt’s backup goalkeeper Kauã Santos.

In the return leg in Frankfurt, Tottenham won 1–0 to secure a 2–1 aggregate victory and a place in the semi-finals. Frankfurt’s Turkish international Can Uzun was substituted on in the 58th minute.
Bodo/Glimt vs Lazio
In the first leg in Norway, Bodo/Glimt defeated Lazio 2–0 with both goals scored by Ulrik Saltnes. Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas prevented further damage with key saves late in the match. Lazio manager Marco Baroni later announced a shift to man-marking tactics for the second leg.
The return fixture at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico ended in a 3–1 win for Lazio. With the aggregate score tied 3–3, the match went to a penalty shootout. Bodo/Glimt prevailed 3–2, becoming the first Norwegian club to reach the semi-finals of a major UEFA competition.

According to the draw conducted by UEFA, the semi-final pairings for the 2024–25 season are as follows:

The semi-finals will be played over two legs, with the first matches scheduled for 1 May 2025 and the second legs on 8 May 2025.

- The Manchester United vs Lyon match was the first in Europa League history to feature five goals in extra time.
- Harry Maguire’s 120+1st-minute goal was the latest match-winner ever recorded in the competition.
- Athletic Bilbao scored 12 goals and conceded just 2 across five home fixtures in the tournament up to the quarter-finals.
- Bodo/Glimt recorded four consecutive UEFA home victories against Italian clubs and became the first Norwegian side to reach the semi-finals of a European tournament.
