98th Academy Awards is the 98th ceremony presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honor films released in 2025. The ceremony was held on March 15, 2026 in Los Angeles, United States, and was hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien.

The film with the most awards at the ceremony was “One Battle After Another”, which won a total of six Oscars. The film “Sinners” received 16 nominations, the most of any film at the ceremony, and ultimately won four awards.

Statements and Reactions During the Ceremony

During the 98th Academy Awards ceremony, several artists delivered messages in their speeches. The directors of “Mr. Nobody Against Putin”, which won the Best Documentary Feature award, David Borenstein and Pavel Talankin, drew attention to the activities of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in their remarks. Borenstein criticized government policies, stating, "When the government kills people on the streets of our major cities, we become accomplices." He emphasized that everyone faces a moral choice, adding, "One person can be stronger than they think."

"The Voice of Hind Rajab" actors Saja Kilani and Amer Hlehel, along with Charithra Chandran from the series Bridgerton, wore pins reading "Artists for a Ceasefire" to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Spanish actor Javier Bardem, who presented the award for Best International Feature Film, shouted the slogan "No to war and free Palestine" during his speech. His remarks were met with prolonged applause from the audience. Talankin, the film’s other director, also called out, "Stop all these wars immediately, for our future and for all our children."

"The Voice of Hind Rajab", nominated in the Best International Feature Film category, was unable to attend the ceremony because its lead actor, Palestinian Motaz Malhees, was denied entry to the United States due to travel restrictions. Sara Shahverdi, the Iranian subject of the nominee for Best Documentary Short Film, was also unable to attend due to a U.S. visa ban.

Palestinian actor Malhees, who portrayed the lead in "The Voice of Hind Rajab", posted on social media: "I am not permitted to enter the United States because of my Palestinian passport. This is heartbreaking, but the truth is: you can block a passport, but you cannot silence a voice. I am Palestinian, and I stand with pride and dignity." Malhees added about the film, "Our story is stronger than any obstacle and will be heard."
