Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University (AFSÜ) was established by Law No. 7141, published in the Official Gazette dated May 18, 2018, with the separation from Afyon Kocatepe University to become an independent higher education institution. Upon its establishment, it adopted a structure focused on specialization in health-themed education, research and development, and community service.

The university includes the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Faculty of Health Sciences, as well as the Atatürk School of Health Services, Bolvadin School of Health Services, Şuhut School of Health Services, and the Graduate School of Education. AFSÜ provides formal education in health sciences and runs undergraduate and graduate programs at various levels.
The university's Health Application and Research Center, Oral and Dental Health Application and Research Center, Traditional and Complementary Medicine Application and Research Center, and Health Sciences and Technologies Application and Research Center are among the units where both applied education is conducted and health services are provided.
