Ağadere Hospital and Martyrs' Cemetery was used as one of the important areas providing medical services behind the front lines during the Gallipoli Campaign. Today, it is located within the boundaries of the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park and is preserved as a monumental martyrs' cemetery.

Located in the Ağadere region, approximately 1 kilometer south of Çamburnu Castle on the Eceabat–Kilitbahir road, the memorial was established in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives during the Gallipoli Campaign. The structure holds historical significance as it served as a center for medical services during the war and now functions as a memorial.

Historical Background

Health services provided behind the front lines during the Gallipoli Campaign were an important component of the logistical and medical aspects of the war. Wounded soldiers were evacuated from the front lines with the support of medical personnel and transported to mobile hospitals. At these hospitals, soldiers were treated according to their medical conditions; those in critical condition were transferred to hospitals in Istanbul. The conditions of the time, particularly due to enemy naval artillery fire and air raids, made the provision of medical services extremely challenging.

Martyrs' Cemetery and Restoration Work

The Ağadere Hospital Martyrs' Cemetery is an area where soldiers who lost their lives at the Ağadere Hospital during the Gallipoli Campaign are buried. In 2012, the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, affiliated with the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, launched a restoration project to reorganize the area. As a result of the “Ağadere Hospital and Martyrs' Cemetery Concept Project Competition” held in the same year, the team led by Dr. Oktan Nalbantoğlu won the first prize. Following the competition, an implementation project was developed, encompassing disciplines such as architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, and industrial design.

It is a site whose martyrdom status has been confirmed due to its being recorded in historical documents. Following the completion of restoration work, the Ağadere Martyrs' Cemetery has begun to be included among the visitor areas within the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park.
