Location and Geographical Structure
Ağın is a district located in the northwest of Elazığ province, which is in the Eastern Anatolia Region of Türkiye. It is 75 kilometers away from the provincial center. To its east is Keban, to its west is Arapgir district of Malatya, to its south is Baskil, and to its north is Tunceli province. A large part of the district is surrounded by natural borders formed by the Euphrates River. Topographically, it has a mountainous and rugged terrain. The surroundings of the district are covered with pine and oak forests. Keban Dam Lake, located on the Euphrates River, constitutes the water source of the region.
History
The history of Ağın dates back to ancient times. Various archaeological findings in the district indicate that the settlement goes back to prehistoric ages. Throughout history, the region has been under the rule of many civilizations such as the Hittites, Urartians, Persians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, and Ottomans. Ağın, which was a settlement affiliated with the Harput Sanjak during the Ottoman period, gained district status in 1938. Most of the settlements affiliated with the district maintain the old village culture and traditional way of life.
Administrative Structure
Ağın district has the status of a district municipality affiliated with Elazığ province. There is no town affiliated with the district, and there are a total of 19 villages and 10 neighborhoods. The district center is located in Ağın Neighborhood, which bears the same name. Municipal services are carried out by the Ağın Municipality Presidency; governorship services are coordinated by the Ağın District Governorship.
Population and Economy
The district's population tends to decrease over time due to demographic reasons such as migration and aging. Agriculture and animal husbandry are among the main sources of livelihood in the district. Cereal products, viticulture, and small ruminant breeding are prominent economic activities. In recent years, there has been a seasonal increase in population, especially during the summer months, due to the return of compatriots from home and abroad to the district.

Culture and Social Life
Ağın is a settlement that largely preserves traditional cultural elements. Handicrafts, folk dances, local dishes, and traditional music constitute the cultural heritage of the district. Ağın halay (folk dance) and local costumes are important elements of the regional culture. Hospitality and social solidarity are prominent features of the social structure. Civil society organizations such as the Ağın Culture and Solidarity Association are also active in social activities in the district.

Ağın district is connected to Elazığ by road. Transportation to the district is provided by private vehicles and public transport. Ağın is close to the Elazığ-Keban highway route in terms of transportation. Basic public services such as a health center, primary school, high school, police station, and post office are available in the district.

Ağın is a settlement that stands out with its natural beauties. Due to its location on the shore of Keban Dam Lake, it has a natural landscape.
