Alpaslan-1 Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant

Alpaslan-1 Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) is located in eastern Türkiye, within the boundaries of Muş province, on the Murat River at place. With an installed capacity of 160 MW, power plant is the 96th largest energy plant in Türkiye and the largest in Muş. It is also the 30th largest hydroelectric power plant in Türkiye.

History and Operation

The first two turbines, each with a capacity of 40 MW, were commissioned on 3 August 2012, and the other two turbines of the same capacity were brought online on 13 November 2012, initiating electricity operations.

Energy Production and Contribution

The plant has an average annual electricity generation of 351,207,794 kilowatt-hours, sufficient to meet the energy needs of approximately 106,105 people in residence, industry, transportation and government offices like. When residential consumption is taken into account, it provides energy to 111,495 households.

The Importance of Alpaslan-1 HPP

The plant is one of the representatives of hydropower, one of Türkiye’s renewable energy resources. In addition to energy production, it contributes to regional row management by providing additional benefits such as agricultural irrigation and flood control.
