Altay Bayındır was born on 14 April 1998 in the Osmangazi district of Bursa. He began his football career as a goalkeeper in Bursa, the city where he was born and raised. At the age of 17 in 2015, he launched his professional football career with MKE ANKARAGÜCÜ. In 2019, Bayındır signed with FENERBAHÇE A.Ş. and transferred to Manchester United in 2023. He continues his career at Manchester United.
Bayındır began his football career in Bursa. His youth career spanned the clubs Bursaspor (2007–2011), TSE Arabayatağı Spor (2011–2012), Bursa Yolspor (2012–2013), and MKE Ankaragücü (2013–2015). He obtained his license while playing for Bursaspor in 2007. From 2008 to 2014, he played as an amateur. Bayındır took his first step into professional football in 2015 while playing for MKE Ankaragücü, where he had started playing in 2013. He made his Süper Lig debut on 30 November 2018 in a match between MKE Ankaragücü and Çaykur Rizespor.
In 2019, Bayındır signed with Fenerbahçe A.Ş. He played 145 matches for Fenerbahçe A.Ş., accumulating a total of 13.000 minute minutes. After four years with Fenerbahçe, he transferred to Manchester United, a Premier League club in England. He made his first appearance for the club on 28 January 2024 in an FA Cup match against Newport County. On 12 January 2025, Bayındır saved two penalties in the Manchester United versus Arsenal match, helping his team advance to the next round.
Altay Bayındır won the TFF 2. LİG Cup with MKE Ankaragücü in the 2016–2017 season. He won the Türkiye Kupası with Fenerbahçe in the 2022–2023 season. In 2024, he lifted the English Cup with Manchester United.
Altay Bayındır made his first appearance for the national team in the Turkey U17 category on 28 August 2014 against Greece. He earned caps for the U-19 team once, the U-20 team twice, and the U-21 team ten times. Bayındır was first called up to the senior national team in 2020. He made his debut for the A National Team on 27 May 2021 in the match between Turkey and Azerbaijan.
As of 2025, he continues his career wearing the number 1 jersey for Manchester United and the number 12 jersey for the A National Team.
