During high school, Altay Cem Meriç lived a secular life and became an atheist during his university years (around his second year). In his own words, during this “superficial” phase, debates with Muslims and his own religious inquiries led him to return to Islam. After becoming Muslim, he initially adhered to a strict and rigid (Hanbali/Salafi-oriented) perspective, but over time, through reading philosophy and kalam, he gradually adopted a more moderate stance aligned with the Hanafi tradition.
Driven by a lifelong inclination, he is interested in sports such as basketball, football, volleyball, table tennis, and billiards. He also speaks English and Arabic.
Altay Cem Meriç is married and a father of two daughters. He balances his family life with his professional and intellectual pursuits.
