Armed Attack Targeting Bend Silver Rail Elementary School in the United States (2026)

Armed Attack on Silver Rail Elementary School, on 15 October 2026, was an armed attack at Silver Rail Elementary School (Silver Rail Elementary School) in the city of Bend, located in the state of Oregon, United States. The attacker, a 16-year-old, entered the building by firing at the locked doors and killed three children aged 5, 8 and 11 and one teacher. A 7-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher were seriously injured in the attack. The attacker was shot and killed by a civilian who witnessed him entering the school and followed him inside.^【1】

Silver Rail Elementary School is located on Southeast Stone Creek Lane in Bend and is an elementary school providing education from preschool through fifth grade.^【2】 According to Oregon Department of Education data as of 2025, the school has 459 enrolled students.^【3】 Police statements indicate that approximately 450 students and more than 40 adult staff members were present at the school.^【4】 The school is part of the Bend-La Pine Schools district. Police Chief Krantz stated that the suspect was shot and killed by “a community member who witnessed him entering the school, followed him inside, and engaged him in a confrontation.” Police officers entered the building, confirmed the suspect was dead, and then began evacuating the school and assisting the injured. Bend-La Pine Schools Superintendent Steven Cook announced that beginning at 9:00 a.m. on 16 October, crisis counseling services would be available to anyone in need at the Central Library.
