Aşkale Borsa İstanbul Anadolu High School

Aşkale Borsa İstanbul Anadolu Lisesi is a public secondary education institution under the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye, located in the Aşkale district of Erzurum. The institution continues its educational activities in line with the general objectives of the Ministry of National Education, aiming to prepare students for higher education programs and to develop individuals equipped with the competencies required by the contemporary era.^【1】

The institution began its educational activities in 1997 in a temporary building. Starting from the 2009–2010 academic year, it relocated to a new service building constructed by the Istanbul Stock Exchange and has continued its operations at this campus since then.

The district of Aşkale, where the school is located, has undergone various administrative changes throughout its historical development. In 1923 it was a neighborhood subordinate to the Tercan district of Erzurum; following Tercan’s transfer to Erzincan in 1935, it became directly attached to the Erzurum provincial center. Within its institutional history, a strategic management approach has been adopted, and strategic plans for the periods 2010–2014, 2015–2019, and 2019–2023 have been successfully implemented.^【2】

Aşkale Borsa İstanbul Anadolu Lisesi is administratively subordinate to the Ministry of National Education and operates under the supervision of the Erzurum Provincial Directorate of National Education and the Aşkale District Directorate of National Education.

The school’s management organization consists of the principal, the deputy principal, two assistant principals, and the teaching staff council. Admissions are based on criteria such as diploma grades and central examination results. The school’s rate of student placement into higher education programs averages approximately 60 percent.^【5】

The school campus is located in the Kıbrıs Neighborhood of the Aşkale district center, 54 kilometers from the city center of Erzurum. The institution is equipped with 20 modern classrooms, one conference hall, one sports hall, one chemistry laboratory, one physics laboratory, and one information and communication technology (ICT) classroom.

Additionally, the campus includes a library with a capacity of 3,554 books, a games room, a cafeteria, and a medical unit. The school buildings are heated by a natural gas system and are equipped with fiber-optic internet infrastructure under the FATİH Project. A girls’ dormitory with a capacity of 72 beds (118 according to some records) serves students coming from remote areas.^【6】

The school’s administrative leadership is headed by Principal Gökhan Diril, with Deputy Principal Kenan Alpyürür and Assistant Principals Eren Gürses and Zeynep Güven. The academic staff comprises a total of 34 teachers (29 according to some outdated data), distributed across their respective specializations. The teaching staff covers various fields including Turkish Language and Literature, Mathematics, History, Geography, Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge, English, and Physical Education. The administrative structure also employs cooks and support staff in civil servant positions.

The number of students enrolled at the institution varies between 268 and 336 according to different reporting periods. The student population is generally young and dynamic, with students showing interest not only in academic development but also in social and sporting activities.

The student environment is characterized by a low rate of fragmented families and a high level of societal emphasis on education. Educational assistance for students in need is organized through the Social Solidarity Foundation and other local resources.^【7】

Various activities in scientific, cultural, artistic, and sporting fields are organized to support students’ social development. Promoting a reading culture, commemorative programs for specific days and weeks, and local sporting competitions form the foundation of these activities.

The institution utilizes its sports hall to enable student athletes to showcase their talents and has the potential to benefit from external facilities such as the Kandilli Ski Center in the region.^【8】

Aşkale Borsa İstanbul Anadolu Lisesi participates in national and international projects to follow innovative approaches in education. Key initiatives in this context include eTwinning, DAP, and Erasmus projects. Within the framework of international activities, the Erasmus program aims to facilitate mobility for students and teachers, monitor educational practices abroad, and bring foreign language education quality up to international standards.^【9】
