Ataköy Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant

Ataköy Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant is one of the important water structures located in Tokat on the Yeşilırmak river basin. Dam was constructed for regional water storage and hydroelectric power generation. It also serves an important function in irrigation and flood control.

The Ataköy Dam is also known as Kızıldere Dam. The main technical characteristics of the dam are as follows:

The pressure pipes used in the hydroelectric power plant have the following characteristics:

• Pipe Diameter: 2.10 – 3.80 m
• Pipe Length: 2130 m
• Maximum Static Water Pressure: 444 m
• Steel Type: St-52-G
• Pipe Wall Thickness: 10 mm – 44 mm

In addition, the water conveyance tunnel connecting the reservoir with power plant is 6500 m long and 3.80 m wide.

The Ataköy Hydroelectric Power Plant has an installed capacity of 5.53 MW and is operated by Zorlu Energy. While contributing to Türkiye’s energy needs, the dam particularly meets the electricity demands of local settlements in the region. The dam’s water management also supports regional irrigation activities, thereby contributing to economic development.

While the Ataköy Dam provides positive contributions to water management in the region, its water diversion has generated certain impacts on ecosystem. The area within the dam’s reservoir supports amateur fishing and aquatic resource harvesting like activities house.
