Avengers: Endgame (Film)

Avengers: Endgame is a 2019 American superhero, science fiction, action, and adventure film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It is the twenty-second film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and serves as a direct sequel to the 2018 film Avengers: Infinity War. The film centers on the remaining Avengers members who unite to reverse the catastrophic destruction caused by the monstrous titan Thanos, who eliminated half of all life in the universe, and restore balance to the cosmos.

The story begins three weeks after Thanos uses the Infinity Stones to halve the universe’s population. Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Nebula, stranded on a spaceship running out of food and fuel in space, are rescued by Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) and brought back to Earth. Grieving their losses, Bruce Banner (Hulk), Steve Rogers (Captain America), Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), Thor, James Rhodes (War Machine), and Rocket Raccoon pursue Thanos in hopes of restoring the universe to its former state. When they find him, they learn he has destroyed the Stones to prevent their reuse, prompting an enraged Thor to kill him.

Five years pass. Scott Lang (Ant-Man), trapped in the Quantum Realm, accidentally escapes when a mouse activates a control panel and realizes that five years in the outside world felt like only five hours to him. Drawing on this insight, Lang concludes time travel is possible and contacts Rogers and Romanoff.

The remaining heroes devise a “Time Heist” plan to retrieve the Infinity Stones from the past before Thanos can obtain them. Tony Stark designs a spacetime GPS to navigate the Quantum Realm, while Bruce Banner successfully merges his mind with Hulk’s physical form. • 2012 (New York): Rogers, Stark, Banner, and Lang travel to the Battle of New York in 2012 to retrieve the Space, Mind, and Time Stones. Banner obtains the Time Stone from the Ancient One, while Rogers seizes the Mind Stone. However, Stark and Lang’s attempt to retrieve the Space Stone (Tesseract) fails when Loki steals it and escapes. Stark and Rogers then travel to Camp Lehigh in 1970 to secure both the Space Stone and the Pym Particles needed for their return.
• 2013 (Asgard): Thor and Rocket Raccoon travel to Asgard to retrieve the Reality Stone (Aether) from Jane Foster; during this mission, Thor also takes his old hammer, Mjolnir.
• 2014 (Morag and Vormir): Nebula and Rhodes successfully retrieve the Power Stone from Morag, while Romanoff and Clint Barton (Hawkeye) travel to Vormir to obtain the Soul Stone. After collecting all the Stones, Stark builds a gauntlet capable of channeling their energy, and Banner uses it to snap his fingers, restoring all life that had been erased. At that moment, the 2014 version of Thanos, arriving aboard his ship, attacks the Avengers compound, causing massive destruction. A fierce battle ensues between Thanos and Stark, Rogers, and Thor. During the fight, it is revealed that Rogers can wield Mjolnir, tipping the balance in Thanos’s favor—until portals open from the Quantum Realm, allowing all other superheroes and allied armies to join the battle.

At the climax of the battle, as Thanos attempts to seize the Infinity Stones, Stark secretly transfers them to his armor and snaps his fingers, declaring, “I am Iron Man.” The snap annihilates Thanos and his army, but the immense energy of the Stones kills Stark. After the battle, Thor relinquishes control of Asgard to Valkyrie and joins the Guardians of the Galaxy. Steve Rogers returns the Infinity Stones to their original timelines; instead of returning to his own time, he chooses to remain in the past, live a full life with Peggy Carter, and pass his shield to Sam Wilson (Falcon)^【1】.
