Aynzeliha Lake (Şanlıurfa)

Aynzeliha Lake is located in the central district of Şanlıurfa Province, Türkiye. The lake lies immediately next to Balıklıgöl, within the same complex.

Historical Narrative

According to the traditional account, Aynzeliha, the daughter of the Babylonian ruler Nimrod, was punished by her father due to her faith in Prophet Ibrahim. The legend states that after Prophet Ibrahim was cast into the fire, Aynzeliha wished to share his fate. When she too was thrown into the flames, the place where she fell transformed into water, giving rise to Aynzeliha Lake.

Physical Characteristics

The lake is a small natural water body containing carp fish. These fish are protected and not subject to fishing. Aynzeliha Lake is situated within a tourist area that has been landscaped together with Balıklıgöl.

Cultural Status

Aynzeliha Lake is one of the visiting sites within the Balıklıgöl complex. The area is preserved and managed for tourism by the Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality.
