The Bangkok bar fire was a fire that occurred on the night of 12 July 2026 at Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, a bar located in the Chatuchak district of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. The fire resulted in 27 deaths and 63 injuries. It is reported to have begun after smoke emerged from an electrical circuit breaker near the stage area, followed by a power outage and an explosion. Authorities stated that the majority of the fatalities were caused by smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out at approximately 23:57 local time on Sunday 12 July at Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, a beer lounge on Lat Phrao Road near Soi Lat Phrao 1, while a large number of customers were inside. Firefighting teams from Bangkok’s Chatuchak district reported receiving alerts about the fire at around 00:00 local time.

According to eyewitness accounts, the fire started in the stage area of the bar and rapidly spread, forcing many people to flee toward the kitchen and restroom sections at the rear of the venue.

On Monday 13 July at approximately 02:00 local time, the Royal Thai Police announced via their social media account that the fire had been brought under control.

According to initial assessments by authorities, the fire originated from a short circuit in the electrical circuit of an air conditioning unit mounted on the ceiling. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, citing statements from musicians performing on stage, reported that smoke emerged from an electrical circuit breaker near the stage, followed by a power outage and an explosion. It is reported that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the initiation of an investigation into the cause of the fire.

The fire claimed 27 lives and injured 63 people. Of the injured, 22 were reported to be in critical condition. According to the Bangkok Post, nine of the deceased were male and 18 were female. The injured were transported to 16 different hospitals in the city.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt stated that there were two fire exits in the venue, one near the kitchen and the other in front of a table, and that the presence of beer crates near the first exit and a table near the second had hindered evacuation efforts.

Authorities reported that many victims collapsed near restrooms and fire exits, blocking the escape routes for other patrons. Firefighters encountered tables and chairs obstructing their access inside the venue.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt stated that the bar was licensed, operated in a single-story reinforced concrete building, and was permitted to host live music. The venue had passed an inspection in April.

The governor, based on statements from waitstaff, estimated that approximately 300 customers were present during the fire and noted that the bar normally hosted between 600 and 700 people every night. The bar is located in a busy area of northern Bangkok, within walking distance of the Chatuchak weekend market, popular among foreign tourists, as well as two shopping centers, cinemas, and large parks, and is connected to the city’s rail transit system.

In the initial phase, the identities of six victims were confirmed: three men and three women. The male victims were Apinan Pengsri, Pisanu Taengsopha and Suwitcha Sirisalung; the female victims were Nipaporn Jaemjaeng, Acharaporn Sutthisin and Kanoktip Srisuk. Efforts to identify the remaining victims are ongoing.
