Bingöl University (BÜ)

Bingöl University, is a public university established in the province of Bingöl by Law No. 5662 dated 29 May 2007. Located in the Eastern Anatolia Region, the institution is one of the 17 new universities added to the higher education system in 2007 and continues its activities in education, teaching and research.

The academic structure of Bingöl University was built upon the Faculty of Agriculture, School of Health Sciences and School of Vocational Education transferred from Fırat University, along with newly established Faculties of Science and Letters and Economic and Administrative Sciences. Over the years, the university expanded its scope by adding faculties of Engineering and Architecture, Theology, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Sports Sciences, and Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. Additionally, the university was designated as a pilot institution in 2017 under the Higher Education Council's (YÖK) "Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation" project for the field of "Agriculture and Basin-Based Development," and again in 2018 for the field of "Digital Transformation."

The university conducts its educational activities across central and district campuses covering a total area of 3,409,448 m².^【1】

Central Campus: It houses administrative buildings, faculties, institutes, a 24-hour library, a congress center, and a sports complex (football and basketball fields, indoor sports hall).

District Campuses: Vocational schools are located in the districts of Genç and Solhan.

Application Hotel and Thermal Facilities: Located along the Bingöl-Erzurum highway, the facility includes thermal and regular pools, accommodation units, and physical therapy application areas, and is used for educational and health tourism purposes.

A total of 19,283 students are enrolled at Bingöl University at the associate, undergraduate and graduate levels.^【2】 Admission of Turkish citizens is based on scores from the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) organized by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). International student admissions are conducted through the Foreign Student Examination (YÖS) and in accordance with relevant regulations.

Bingöl University offers various undergraduate and associate degree programs through its faculties and schools.

Undergraduate Programs

The Faculty of Science and Letters offers programs in Eastern and Western languages (Arabic, English, Kurdish, Zaza Language and Literature, and Translation and Interpretation), Geography, Philosophy, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, History, and Turkish Language and Literature.

The Faculty of Engineering and Architecture provides education in Computer, Electrical-Electronics, Civil, Mechanical Engineering and Architecture. The Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences offers programs in Economics, Business Administration, Political Science and Public Administration, and Management Information Systems.

Undergraduate education in health sciences is delivered by the Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, as well as departments within the Faculty of Health Sciences including Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing, Occupational Health and Safety, and Health Administration.

The Faculty of Agriculture offers programs in Horticultural Crops, Plant Protection, Biosystems Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Field Crops, Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, and Zootechnics. Programs in Islamic Sciences and Theology are offered by the relevant faculty, while the Recreation and Sports Management program is delivered by the Faculty of Sports Sciences.

Associate Degree Programs

The Technical Sciences Vocational School offers technical and social programs at the associate level, including Computer Programming, Electricity, Construction, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Graphic Design, Web Design and Coding, as well as Carpentry and Landscape. The Social Sciences Vocational School offers service-sector programs such as Culinary Arts, Office Management, Call Center Operations, E-Commerce, Finance, Tourism and Local Governance.

The Health Services Vocational School provides a wide range of health technician programs including Oral and Dental Health, Dialysis, Pharmacy Services, Physiotherapy, First Aid and Emergency Care, Audiology, Medical Laboratory, and Elderly Care.

The Food, Agriculture and Livestock Vocational School in the district offers programs in Beekeeping, Food Technology, Organic Farming, and Laboratory and Veterinary Health. The Genç Vocational School provides programs in Information Security, Forestry and Civil Defense, while the Solhan Health Services Vocational School offers programs in Child Development and Medical Documentation. Additionally, the Information Technologies Vocational School offers computer-focused programs.

The university conducts international mobility activities under the Erasmus+ program and the Erasmus University Charter (ECHE). Through cooperation agreements with European higher education institutions, students have the opportunity to study abroad for periods of 3 to 12 months and receive grant support. Academic recognition is ensured through institutional learning agreements.^【3】

Bingöl University has won various awards through its academic units and students:

Disability-Free University Awards (2022): The Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Selahaddin al-Ayyubi Library and the Bee and Natural Products R&D Center were recognized by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) in the category of "Accessibility in Space."^【4】

TEKNOFEST 2025 Architectural Achievements: At the TEKNOFEST 2025 Architecture and Visual Design Competition held in Istanbul, students from the Architecture Department won three awards. Two student teams secured second and third place in the Stage Design category, while one student achieved second place in the Pavilion Design category. Additionally, three projects were selected for exhibition.^【5】

Sports Achievements: Students and teams who achieved rankings in sports tournaments held at the university in 2025, including football, volleyball, chess and table tennis, were honored by the university administration.^【6】

The university campus provides social facilities for students to utilize their time outside of classes. The central library ensures access to academic resources, while the sports complex and congress center enable physical and cultural activities. Student accommodation needs are met through dormitories operated by the Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK).
