Burak Özçivit is a Turkish actor and former model known for his work in television and cinema. Born on December 24, 1984, in Istanbul, Özçivit began his career as a model and gained recognition after winning first place in the 2005 Best Model of Turkey competition. He later transitioned to acting and achieved widespread popularity through his roles in television series and films, becoming one of Türkiye’s leading male actors.
He completed his secondary education at Kazım İşmen High School in Istanbul. He pursued higher education at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Photography Department, of Marmara University. The foundational theoretical and practical training he received during his education laid the groundwork for his subsequent artistic career.
He began his modeling career in 2003 and was named “Model of the Future” in the same year’s Best Model of Turkey competition. In 2005, he won first place in the same contest and represented Türkiye at the Best Model of the World competition.
He made his acting debut in 2006 with the television series Eksi 18. In the following years, he appeared in the series Zoraki Koca (2007), Baba Ocağı (2008–2009), İhanet (2010), and Küçük Sırlar (2010–2011), portraying the character Çetin in the latter.
From 2011 to 2014, he portrayed the character Malkoçoğlu Bali Bey in the historical series Muhteşem Yüzyıl. This role contributed significantly to his recognition as a leading actor in major historical productions. From 2015 to 2017, he played Kemal Soydere in the series Kara Sevda, which gained international acclaim and won an Emmy Award. Since 2019, he has continued in the lead role as Osman Bey in the series Kuruluş: Osman.
In cinema, he appeared as an actor in the 2007 film Musallat. In 2013, he provided the voice for the character Hassan in the animated film Zarafa. He played roles in the films Aşk Sana Benzer (2015), Kardeşim Benim and its sequel Kardeşim Benim 2 (2016 and 2017), and Can Feda (2018).
The character Malkoçoğlu Bali Bey in Muhteşem Yüzyıl is one of the prominent figures in historical dramas centered on the Ottoman period. His participation in this production helped him gain widespread public recognition. His portrayal of Kemal Soydere in Kara Sevda attracted attention due to its international success and the Emmy Award the series received. Kuruluş: Osman, an ongoing production focused on Ottoman history, has provided continuity to his career.
Burak Özçivit married actress Fahriye Evcen on June 29, 2017, in Istanbul. The couple has two children. Their first son, Karan, was born on April 13, 2019; their second son, Kerem, joined the family on January 18, 2023. Although the couple occasionally shares photos of their children on social media, they generally prefer to keep their private life out of the public eye.
