

Cansu Özbay was born on 17 October 1996 in İzmir, Türkiye. As a Turkish citizen, Özbay is among the national athletes who represent Türkiye at the international level. From a young age, Özbay turned to volleyball and attracted attention with her development at the youth level, quickly making the transition to the professional scene. The athlete, who was born and raised in Türkiye, has spent her entire volleyball career within the country’s borders.
Cansu Özbay began her professional volleyball career in Türkiye. After completing her youth training and early sporting development in İzmir, she drew the interest of national clubs at a young age due to her talent. In the 2015–2016 season, Özbay played for Beşiktaş on loan, where the experience she gained helped further enhance her performance. In 2016, she transferred to VakıfBank Spor Kulübü, where she was promoted to the senior team and entered the top tier of volleyball. Throughout her tenure at VakıfBank, Özbay regularly served as one of the team’s primary setters and became one of the key pillars of the squad in numerous national and international championships.
Cansu Özbay has conducted her entire professional career exclusively with clubs in Türkiye. The majority of her career has been spent with VakıfBank Spor Kulübü, one of the leading clubs in the Turkish Women’s Volleyball League. Although Özbay has never played for a club outside Türkiye, she has gained international experience by participating with VakıfBank in tournaments such as the CEV Champions League and the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship. Through these competitions, she has had the opportunity to compete against top-level opponents from across Europe and the world, further refining her skills and game understanding.
Cansu Özbay was first called up to the Türkiye Women’s National Volleyball Team in 2017. She made her debut at a major international tournament that same year at the European Women’s Volleyball Championship, where she won a bronze medal. Özbay continued to be part of the national team roster in the following years, contributing to key achievements including the silver medal at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and the silver medal at the 2019 European Championship. In 2021, she was part of the national team that won bronze medals at both the Nations League and the European Championship. In 2023, as one of the team’s setters, she played a vital role in Türkiye’s historic double triumph, winning both the FIVB Volleyball Nations League and the European Championship.
Cansu Özbay has played as a setter throughout her career. The setter is one of the fundamental positions in volleyball, responsible for orchestrating the team’s offense and directing attacking plays. Özbay stands out in this role due to her game intelligence, rapid decision-making, and technical proficiency.
During her time with VakıfBank Spor Kulübü, Cansu Özbay has contributed to numerous significant club achievements. With the team, she has won multiple prestigious tournaments both in Türkiye and across Europe. Her outstanding performances during this successful period have established her as one of Türkiye’s most talented setters.
