Cehennem Deresi is located approximately 15 kilometers from the center of Şırnak province, within the boundaries of the Kasrik village. Cehennem Deresi, a tributary of the Tigris River, has carved a deep valley between high cliffs in the region. The canyon is about 2 kilometers long and reaches depths of up to 60 meters. Characterized by steep cliffs, vertical slopes, and narrow passages, the area is a typical example of valley and canyon formation. The region attracts attention with its natural rock formations on both sides of the valley.

Natural Structure and Ecosystem

Cehennem Deresi features a canyon ecosystem distinguished by its rocky structure and narrow passages. Along the deep valley, various rock formations and steep slopes can be observed. In recent years, Cehennem Deresi has become a destination attracting nature enthusiasts due to its natural structure and visual appeal. The canyon’s steep cliffs are favored for hiking and exploration. The area receives significant interest from photographers and visitors engaged in outdoor sports. Especially during summer months, its cool atmosphere and naturally shaded areas make it a preferred destination for day trips. Although there are no accommodation facilities around the canyon, visitors typically reach the site on day trips from the center of Şırnak city.

Viewing Terrace and Infrastructure Projects

As part of initiatives led by the Şırnak Governorship and Provincial Special Administration, a viewing terrace has been constructed above Cehennem Deresi. Built using steel structures and anchored to a rocky outcrop, the terrace provides visitors with a safe vantage point to observe the valley. Access to the terrace, which covers an area of approximately 160 square meters, has been improved with the construction of walking paths and staircases. These developments have made the canyon more accessible and attractive for tourism. Additionally, railings have been installed to enhance safety and environmental improvements have been carried out in the area.

Transportation and Access Information

Cehennem Deresi is located approximately 15 kilometers from the center of Şırnak city and can be reached via Kasrik village. Access to the canyon is provided by private vehicles via paved roads. Following the construction of the viewing terrace, improvements have been made to the access route, facilitating easier entry. Visitors departing from the city center proceed toward Kasrik village and then continue on foot from designated points to reach the canyon.

Local Administration and Promotion Activities

The Şırnak Governorship and Provincial Special Administration are implementing various infrastructure and promotional initiatives to develop Cehennem Deresi for tourism. Environmental improvements are carried out to preserve the natural structure of the area, and safety measures are taken for visitors.
