Historical Development
Chery entered the automotive industry with integrated battery production infrastructure and began export activities in 2001. By 2003, it had become one of China’s leading automotive exporters and maintained this position. In 2024, it appeared on the Fortune Global 500 list at rank 385, recognized internationally for economic growth and corporate structure. Electric Vehicle Technology
Chery employs i-MS and LFS platforms for electric vehicle technology, providing range and performance optimization in both compact and luxury BEV models. The Exeed Sterra ET model offers an 800 V electric architecture and fast-charging support. Additionally, as of 2025, battery swapping technology developed jointly with Nio is planned for commercialization. On the hybrid side, thermal efficiency of 44.5 % was achieved between 2023 and 2024, with reported test ranges exceeding 1,800 km.
Global Production Network and Financial Performance
In addition to its Wuhu central facility, Chery has expanded production operations to Indonesia, Brazil, India, Thailand, Hungary, and Turkey (Barcelona). The planned Barcelona plant for Europe has an annual production capacity target of 150,000 units.
In 2024, approximately 2.6 million vehicles were sold, including more than 583,000 NEVs (new energy vehicles). Annual sales growth was recorded at 38 %. In the first half of 2025, export volume reached 443,940 units, maintaining leadership in global exports with over 5 million units shipped in total.
Market Performance and International Expansion
By 2024, Omoda and Jaecoo brands had entered European markets including the UK, Spain, Italy, and Poland. The main Chery brand is planned to enter the UK in 2025. In the European market, entry-level SUV and BEV models have established a competitive position. While some adjustments have been made to production plans, long-term strategic investments continue.
Strategic Goals and Future Vision
Under the “Navigating the Future” strategy, Chery aims to achieve 1 million global sales annually by 2025 and complete the licensing process for 19 hybrid models within the same year. The company adopts a simultaneous development approach for internal combustion (ICE) and new energy vehicles (NEV). Furthermore, through battery swapping infrastructure with Nio and a multi-brand global expansion model, Chery seeks to create a competitive presence in both developed and emerging markets.
