Cleopatra Bay

Kleopatra Cove (or Kleopatra Beach) is a natural sea inlet located on the western slopes of the Alanya Peninsula in the Alanya district of Antalya Province, Türkiye.

Geographical Location and Physical Characteristics

The cove is situated immediately west of the Damlataş Cave. It features a narrow sandy shoreline approximately 2 km in length and is known for its gradual transition from shallow to deeper waters. The surrounding rocky formations define the natural boundaries of the cove.

Geological and Environmental Data

The cliffs that delineate the cove are composed of limestone sedimentary formations of the Taurus Mountains. The area holds a Blue Flag status, indicating compliance with standards for water quality, environmental management, and safety.

Kleopatra Cove (TRT)

Historical and Cultural Background

The name is derived from a legend that Roman general Mark Antony gifted the area to Queen Cleopatra of Egypt, who is said to have swum in this cove. Some oral traditions claim that the queen used a tunnel descending from the castle to reach the beach. However, these accounts are folk legends without historical documentation.

Usage and Tourist Features

The cove is open to the public with free admission. Services such as sunbeds and umbrellas are available for a fee. Activities include swimming, water sports, and underwater viewing with snorkeling gear. It is reported to experience high visitor traffic especially between May and September.

Visitor Volume

According to 2018 data, the cove welcomed nearly two million visitors annually. By 2020, this number had reached approximately three million.

The cove is within walking distance of central Alanya. It is accessible by public transportation (dolmuş/bus) and private vehicles.
