Çorlu Chamber of Commerce and Industry

The Çorlu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Çorlu TSO) is a professional organization of public institution status that brings together commercial and industrial enterprises operating in the districts of Çorlu and Ergene within Türkiye’s Tekirdağ province. Operating within the framework of Law No. 5174 on the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye, the Chamber was established to meet the common needs of its members, facilitate their professional activities, contribute to the economic development of the region, and foster honesty and trust among its members. It is recognized as one of the most important economic civil society organizations in the region.

History

The growing commercial and industrial potential of Çorlu necessitated the establishment of a professional chamber. As a result of these efforts, the Çorlu Chamber of Commerce and Industry was officially founded on 24 April 1958. From its inception, it began activities aimed at registering, regulating, and developing commercial life in the region. In its early years, the Chamber operated under modest conditions but expanded significantly as Çorlu and its surroundings transformed into one of Türkiye’s most important industrial centers. Increasing membership and the broadening of its service scope led the Chamber to relocate to modern service buildings and expand its range of services. In 2012, following Ergene’s elevation to district status, the service area of Çorlu TSO was formally extended to encompass both districts.

Management and Administrative Structure

The governance structure of the Çorlu Chamber of Commerce and Industry is based on a democratic election process as defined by Law No. 5174. The Chamber’s bodies are elected by its members every four years. Professional Committees are the first-tier bodies, grouping members according to their fields of activity and providing forums to discuss sector-specific issues and proposed solutions. The Chamber Council consists of representatives elected from the Professional Committees and serves as the highest decision-making body of the Chamber. It approves the Chamber’s budget, adopts its strategic plans, and elects the Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors is the executive body of the Chamber, elected by the Chamber Council from among its own members. It is responsible for managing the Chamber’s daily operations, implementing decisions, and representing the Chamber. The President of the Board of Directors also serves as the President of the Chamber. The Disciplinary Board is tasked with upholding professional ethics and solidarity among members. In addition to these bodies, the Chamber’s administrative services are carried out by a General Secretary and a team of specialized staff under his supervision.

Contributions and Activities

The Çorlu Chamber of Commerce and Industry provides a wide range of services and activities for its members and the regional economy. Official Registration and Certification: It issues numerous official documents essential for commercial life, including trade registry registrations, member registrations, capacity reports, K certificates, and certificates of origin and circulation (ATR, EUR.1). Education and Consulting: It regularly organizes training sessions, seminars, and information meetings on topics such as foreign trade, marketing, financing, and regulatory changes to enhance the institutional capacity of its members. Regional Development Activities: It undertakes initiatives to increase the region’s investment potential, supports participation in trade fairs, guides investors, and collaborates with local authorities and other public institutions to develop regional development projects. Sectoral Representation and Lobbying: It identifies sectoral and general issues faced by its members, communicates these concerns to relevant public institutions, monitors resolution processes, and provides input on legislative initiatives to serve as the voice of the business community.

The Çorlu Chamber of Commerce and Industry plays a central role in the economic development of Çorlu and Ergene, one of Türkiye’s largest industrial basins. By uniting tens of thousands of enterprises under a single umbrella, it has established a cohesive institutional structure and fostered a network of communication and cooperation among businesses. The Chamber contributes to the orderly operation, formal registration, and compliance with international standards of the region’s industry and commerce. Through its lobbying activities and projects, it has been an effective actor in addressing infrastructure needs—such as transportation and energy—and improving the investment climate. By delivering services to its members, Çorlu TSO enhances the competitiveness of firms while laying the groundwork for raising the overall welfare level of the region and establishing it as a recognized industrial center.
