Compiled by Necdet Sakaoğlu, the Osmanlı Tarihi Sözlüğü is a comprehensive dictionary that provides definitions of terms related to the administration, institutions, military structures, law, education, architecture, worship, protocol, and daily life of the Ottoman State. As it offers explanations of concepts used during the Ottoman period, it serves as a reference source for historical research and studies.

In the work, terms related to the place field examine the administrative and cultural structure of the Ottoman State through its practices in different geographical regions. Although insufficient for advanced academic research, it is adequate for foundational study.

About the Author

Necdet Sakaoğlu (b. 1939, Divriği) is an educator, historian and researcher. After completing his education at the Sivas Teacher School and the Literature Department of Çapa Eğitim Enstitüsü, he served in roles including teaching, school administration, inspection at the Ministry of National Education, and membership of the Council of Education and Instruction like, retiring in 1998.
