Tevzi is derived from the Arabic root wzʿ, corresponding to the written form tevzīʿ, which carries meanings such as "distribution, allocation, apportionment". The term tevzīʿ originates from the second form of the Arabic verb wazaʿa (وَزَعَ), meaning "to distribute, to divide".
