Ebrar Karakurt (AA)
Ebrar Karakurt was born on January 17, 1999, in Balıkesir. She is one of the current players of Türkiye’s women’s volleyball team and plays as a setter. She is recognized as an athlete distinguished by her physical attributes, playing skills, and international experience. Throughout her career, she has made significant contributions at both club and national team levels.
Ebrar Karakurt’s involvement in sports began during her elementary and middle school years in Balıkesir, when she played volleyball for her school teams. Her physical characteristics—particularly her height (1.96 m) and coordination skills—were noticed by teachers and coaches, who encouraged her to pursue more advanced sports training. Her athletic talent and potential were supported by early foundational training, which later directed her toward professional club academies.
After being accepted into the youth development program of VakıfBank Spor Kulübü, she began systematic volleyball training. There, she underwent comprehensive development in playing technique, physical endurance, positional awareness, and on-court responsibilities. Additionally, she cultivated mental resilience, team communication, and strategic decision-making skills essential for professional sports. Karakurt’s youth career laid a strong foundation that quickly propelled her to higher-level teams, enabling her to compete at elite levels at a young age.
Ebrar Karakurt was developed through the VakıfBank youth system and won the CEV Women’s Champions League title with the senior team during the 2017–2018 season. She later transferred to Türk Hava Yolları Spor Kulübü, where she regularly played in the Turkish Women’s Volleyball League. In 2021, she moved to Igor Gorgonzola Novara of Italy’s Serie A1 League, continuing her career abroad and competing in league matches, domestic cups, and European competitions.
In her national team career, she has represented Türkiye at various youth levels. She was part of the team that won the gold medal at the 2017 U23 World Championship. At the senior national team level, she earned silver medals at the 2018 FIVB Nations League and the 2019 European Championship, bronze medals at the 2021 European Championship and FIVB Nations League, and gold medals at the 2023 Nations League and European Championship.
Playing as a setter, Karakurt possesses the ability to execute high-efficiency attacks from both front and back rows. Her left-handedness disrupts opponents’ blocking formations, providing a technical advantage that complicates defensive organization. Her serves, featuring varied speed and direction, effectively challenge the receiving patterns of opposing teams. Her blocking performance is enhanced by her physical advantages and precise timing. She is widely recognized for her contributions to Türkiye’s competitive presence on international volleyball platforms.
