Story

There are multiple versions of the folk song. One of the most prominent accounts centers on a nobleman from Istanbul who arrived in Buldan (then a settlement under Aydın’s jurisdiction) in the 19th century. Bey commissioned the construction of a grand mansion. The fame of this magnificent structure reached even the Aydın Pasha. Upon learning that the mansion was more splendid than his own, the Pasha ordered it burned down. Undeterred by the fire, the nobleman rebuilt it, adding further extensions and embellishments. These additions became the subject of lament and folk song among the local people.

In another version, the story deepens with romantic themes: the love between the son of a wealthy merchant and the servant girl Nagihan ends in family pressure, slander, and tragedy. Ultimately, Nagihan commits suicide, and village the people begin to sing the song in memory of the event.
