Fanaa (Film)

Fanaa is a 2006 Indian romantic drama film directed by Kunal Kohli. The lead roles are shared by Aamir Khan and Kajol. The film explores themes of love betrayal identity and sacrifice within a political and social context. It was produced by Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra.

Plot

The film begins with the encounter between Zooni Ali Beg a blind woman living in Delhi and Rehan Qadri a tour guide. Zooni falls in love with Rehan during her visit to Delhi. After undergoing surgery and regaining her sight Zooni learns that Rehan died in a terrorist attack. Years later however she discovers that Rehan is still alive and involved in a plot targeting India. The film examines how love and loyalty can conflict with personal beliefs and national responsibilities.

Kunal Kohli directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Shibani Bathija. Produced by Bollywood’s prominent figure Aditya Chopra the film was made by the Indian-based Yash Raj Films studio. The music was composed through a collaborative effort by the duos Jatin–Lalit and Salim–Sulaiman. Ravi K. Chandran served as the cinematographer and the film was completed in 2006. Made in India and shot in Hindi the film has a total runtime of 168 minutes. As a romantic drama with thriller elements it stands among Bollywood’s emotionally intense productions.
