Fig Jam (Film)

Fig Jam is a Turkish dramatic romantic film released in 2011, written and directed by Aytaç Ağırlar. The film centers on the relationship between Metin, a screenwriter for television, and Duygu, a woman harboring secrets about her past. The production draws attention for addressing themes rarely explored in Turkish cinema, including HIV/AIDS through the character of Duygu.

The film opens with the personal and professional disappointments of Metin, a screenwriter for television channels who consistently receives rejection letters. His life changes one night when he meets Duygu, a mysterious woman, at a bar. Duygu’s spontaneous lifestyle and enigmatic past captivate Metin. Over time, Duygu moves into Metin’s home and a romantic relationship develops between them. However, this closeness is disrupted as truths about Duygu’s past come to light. When Duygu reveals she is HIV positive, their relationship is put to a difficult test. Through the story of a personal love affair, the film explores themes of social prejudice, living with illness, and confronting loss. The ending concludes with a dramatic resolution.
