

Gamze Gürdal’s life has been shaped by her dedication to sports and education despite her physical disability. Gürdal, who competes in para taekwondo, began her sporting career during her university studies and quickly participated in national and international competitions. Representing Türkiye in various European and world championships, she has gained international recognition through her achievements in different years. Competing in the K44 57 kg category at all events she has entered, Gürdal continues to actively pursue her athletic career.
Gamze Gürdal was born on 12 June 1995 in Erzurum. Born with a congenital upper limb difference, she spent her childhood and early youth in Erzurum.
She completed her primary and secondary education in the same city; however, her interest in sports was not professionally guided until her university years. To continue her education, Gürdal moved to Ankara, where she pursued higher education. While in her second year of university, she began practicing taekwondo as a hobby. Her rapid progress and disciplined training soon earned her a call-up to the national team.
Despite starting sports at a relatively late age, Gürdal developed quickly and maintained an active athletic life alongside her academic pursuits, placing equal importance on both her sporting and academic development.
Gamze Gürdal is one of Türkiye’s athletes representing the country at the international level in para taekwondo. She first attracted attention in 2017 by winning the European Para Taekwondo Championship, and later that same year added a medal at the IWAS World Games, solidifying her emergence on the international stage. She demonstrated consistent performance with podium finishes at the European Championships in 2018 and 2019, and competed at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, achieving participation at the Paralympic level. Gürdal won gold medals at the European Championships in both 2022 and 2023, and most recently secured a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, bringing success to Türkiye in the para taekwondo discipline.
Gamze Gürdal continues her career with EGO Sports Club Association, affiliated with Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. Her coach is Kürşat Özdemir.
