History
Hacı Bekir was founded in 1777 by Hacı Bekir Efendi, who came to Istanbul from the town of Araç in Kastamonu. He started producing and selling sweets such as Turkish delight and akide candy in a small shop in Bahçekapı. During that period, honey and molasses were used as sweeteners, and flour was used as a binder. However, Hacı Bekir Efendi introduced a pioneering approach by using refined sugar and starch imported from Europe in his production.
