Hittite University (HİTÜ)

Hitit University is a public university established by Law No. 5467, which came into effect on 17 March 2006. The university is located in the Çorum province of Türkiye. The foundation of Hitit University is based on academic units previously affiliated with Gazi University and situated in Çorum. These units were reorganized in 2006 as a new and independent university.

During its establishment, Hitit University received several units from Gazi University, including the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Theology, the Vocational School, and the School of Health Sciences.

Under the Higher Education Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project, Hitit University has been designated as a university specializing in Machine and Manufacturing Technologies.^【1】 It currently offers educational activities through 11 faculties, 1 institute, 1 school, and 7 vocational schools. The university also operates 1 Education and Research Hospital and 20 application and research centers.

The main campus of the university is the North Campus, which houses the majority of academic and administrative units. Health services and applied medical education are conducted at the Erol Olçok Education and Research Hospital located in the city center. Academic units also provide education at campuses in districts such as Alaca, İskilip, Osmancık, and Sungurlu.

The university has 19,418 enrolled students and 42,922 graduates.^【2】 Student admissions are conducted through the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). The university also provides education to more than 1,200 international students from 60 countries, ranging from Europe and North Africa to Central Asian republics, the Middle East, the Balkans, and the Caucasus.

Hitit University offers undergraduate and associate degree programs through various academic units.

Undergraduate Programs: Undergraduate education is provided in fields such as Anthropology, Archaeology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Computer Engineering, Child Development, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Finance and Banking, Nursing, Economics, Theology, Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Public Finance, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Health Management, Political Science and Public Administration (in Turkish and English), Social Work, Sports Management, History, Medicine, Turkish Language and Literature, International Relations (in English), International Trade and Logistics, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Some departments (Anthropology, Archaeology, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics, History, Turkish Language and Literature) are offered across multiple faculties.

These programs are delivered through central and district vocational schools.

To support international mobility, the university participates in the Erasmus+, Mevlana, and Farabi exchange programs. Internationally, it has signed a total of 150 agreements, including bilateral partnerships with 71 universities from 47 countries, 53 universities under the Mevlana program, and 40 universities under the Erasmus+ program. These agreements cover student and academic staff exchanges, internships, international events, and collaborative research projects.^【3】

• Specialization Area: It has been designated by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) as the sole higher education institution specializing in Machine and Manufacturing Technologies.^【4】

• Rankings: In the 2024 Times Higher Education Young University Rankings (universities under 50 years old), it was placed in the 601+ band. Among state universities established in Türkiye after 2000, it ranked 6th in the education subcategory and 10th in the research environment category.^【5】

• Accessible University Awards: In the “2024 Accessible Universities Awards” organized by YÖK, four buildings—the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Sungurlu Vocational School, Faculty of Theology, Institute of Graduate Studies, School of Foreign Languages, and North Campus Social Life Center—were awarded the Accessibility in Space Award (Orange Flag). Including previous awards, the university holds a total of nine Orange Flags and one Accessible Program Badge.^【6】

• Scientific Achievement: Students from the Faculty of Engineering developed ASİST BM4, a basketball shooting machine with fully自主研发 software and design capable of tracking players using facial recognition technology, at the Çorum TGB Technopark. This product was successfully completed under the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology’s Techno-Entrepreneurship Capital Support Program.^【7】

• Academic Achievement Awards:
• • Faculty of Health Sciences: Under the 2023 Academic Achievement Awards, it received second place in the Community Service category. Additionally, faculty members Prof. Dr. Nuriye Büyükkayacı Duman, Prof. Dr. Selen Özakar Akça, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Menekşe Şahin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeliz Bolat, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nisa Gökden Kaya, and Lecturer Dr. Filiz Selen received awards and certificates in various categories.^【8】

On the North Campus, students have access to dining halls, cafeterias, student club meeting spaces, conference halls, and a congress and culture center. Accommodation is provided through dormitories operated by the Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK), private dormitories, and apartments.
