I Am Legend (Film)

I Am Legend (original title: I Am Legend) is a 2007 American post-apocalyptic action-thriller film directed by Francis Lawrence. The film follows Robert Neville (Will Smith), the sole survivor in New York City after a virus that wiped out humanity in 2012, as he struggles to survive and searches for a cure.

Plot

In 2009, a genetically modified measles virus developed to cure cancer escapes control and spreads rapidly, wiping out the majority of the human population by 2012. Virologist Robert Neville, one of the few individuals immune to the virus, believes he is the last living human, accompanied only by his dog Sam. During the day, he broadcasts radio messages in hope of finding other immune survivors and scavenges the abandoned city for food and supplies. At night, he must hide from the wild, mutated creatures (Darkseekers) created by the virus, which hunt in darkness. While using his scientific knowledge to develop a cure, Neville also battles the crushing effects of loneliness and despair. Amid his fight for survival, he clings to hope for the future of humanity.
