İnsuyu Cave is known as one of the first caves in Turkey to be opened to tourism. Located within the borders of Burdur province, the cave is situated near Mandıra Village, at the 15th kilometer of the Burdur-Antalya highway. Opened to tourism in 1965, the cave attracts attention with its natural structure and is also considered an important site for scientific research.

The cave has a total length of 597 meters and is located at an altitude of approximately 900 meters above sea level. Over time, the dissolution and erosion of the karstic structure have led to the formation of stalactites and stalagmites of various sizes within the cave. Additionally, the interior of the cave features winding passages and corridors. These formations, which have developed over thousands of years through natural processes, provide valuable insight into the geological history of the cave.

One of the most significant features of İnsuyu Cave is the presence of lakes inside. The cave contains a total of nine lakes of varying sizes. These lakes have contributed to the formation of a unique ecosystem within the cave, enhancing its touristic appeal. However, due to prolonged drought and environmental factors, some of the lakes have dried up over time. The cave has a cool and fresh airflow, and in the past, its water was believed to have healing properties for diabetes and stomach ailments.

Preservation and Conservation Efforts

To protect its natural structure, İnsuyu Cave was officially designated as a First-Degree Natural Protected Area on July 9, 1976, under decision A 113. The cave, which is under the protection of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has been the subject of various studies, revealing that its galleries extend further than initially thought. This suggests that there are still unexplored sections of the cave awaiting discovery.

İnsuyu Cave is located along the Burdur-Antalya highway, approximately 13 kilometers from Burdur city center. It is easily accessible by road, offering convenient transportation options for both individual visitors and tour groups.
