According to Iranian officials, the attack occurred at approximately 21:30 local time on Tuesday, 1 September, while a wedding ceremony was ongoing in the Kuheştek area. Ahmad Nefisi, Deputy Governor of Hormuzgan, stated that a residence hosting the wedding was hit in an airstrike carried out by the United States. Initial assessments reported two deaths and around 50 injuries, but the death toll was later raised to four.

According to data later released by the Iranian Red Crescent, four people lost their lives and 67 were injured in the attack. The deceased were identified as two women and two children aged four and sixteen. Iranian officials noted that the majority of the injured were women and children. The Red Crescent warned that the death toll could rise due to the critical condition of some of the wounded.

Footage released after the attack showed heavy damage to the building where the wedding was held, debris scattered across the surrounding area, and a nearby power transmission tower toppled. Reuters confirmed the location of the footage using satellite imagery and reported that the fallen tower was approximately 136 meters from the damaged building.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the U.S. statement. Iranian officials emphasized that the targeted area was a civilian settlement and that a wedding ceremony was taking place at the time of the strike. The Iranian government asserted that the incident constituted a violation of international law regarding the protection of civilians.

Following the attack, the Iranian Red Crescent sent a letter to the International Criminal Court (ICC) requesting an investigation into the Kuheştek strike. The organization highlighted the civilian nature of the targeted site and called for an “independent, impartial, comprehensive, and effective” inquiry.

The Red Crescent also recalled that international humanitarian law prohibits direct attacks on civilians or civilian objects and attacks expected to cause disproportionate harm to civilians compared to the anticipated military advantage. On the same day, another attack targeted a sports hall in Lamerd, resulting in the deaths of 21 people, four of whom were children.
