Isparta University of Applied Sciences (ISUBÜ)

Isparta Applied Sciences University (ISUBÜ) is a public higher education institution located in the city of Isparta, in the southwestern region of Türkiye, within the Lake District. The university was established on May 18, 2018, by Law No. 7141. It conducts education, teaching, and research activities at undergraduate, associate, and graduate levels, with a focus on applied sciences.

History

The academic structure of Isparta Applied Sciences University was formed through the transfer of units from Süleyman Demirel University (SDÜ) and the establishment of new units. At the time of its founding, four faculties, two colleges, and seventeen vocational colleges previously affiliated with SDÜ were integrated into ISUBÜ alongside newly established units. Thus, the university commenced operations with an academic framework comprising six faculties, two colleges, nineteen vocational colleges, and one institute.

Campuses

Isparta Applied Sciences University has campuses located in Isparta city center and surrounding districts.

Central Campuses: In Isparta city center, the university shares the Eastern and Western Campuses with Süleyman Demirel University. The Eastern Campus hosts the agricultural fields, greenhouses, and research farms of the Faculty of Agriculture. These campuses provide physical facilities including classrooms, laboratories, workshops, libraries, cafeterias, and sports venues.

District Campuses: In line with the university’s goal of integrating with local district economies, campuses have also been established in various districts of Isparta:

Yalvaç Campus: Hosts the Faculty of Applied Sciences Büyükkutlu and Yalvaç Vocational College.

Eğirdir Campus: Hosts the Faculty of Aquatic Products, Faculty of Tourism, and Eğirdir Vocational College.

Other District Campuses: Vocational colleges are located in the districts of Aksu, Atabey, Gelendost, Gönen, Keçiborlu, Senirkent, Sütçüler, Şarkikaraağaç, and Uluborlu.

Student Profile

The university has a total of 29,368 students, with approximately 8,000 new student enrollments each year. Admissions are based on the results of the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) conducted in Türkiye. According to the 2025 Performance Program data:

Distribution by Level of Study: The majority of students are enrolled in associate and undergraduate programs. Graduate education continues through master’s and doctoral programs.

Gender Distribution (Associate/Undergraduate): Approximately 55% of students are male and 45% are female.

International Students: A total of 753 international students are enrolled at the associate, undergraduate, and graduate levels.

Campus Distribution: Approximately 55% of students receive education at the central campuses, while 45% study at district campuses. ^【1】

Undergraduate Programs: Undergraduate programs offered by the university include the following:

Under the Faculty of Agriculture: Horticultural Crops, Plant Protection, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Engineering, Agricultural Biotechnology, Agricultural Structures and Irrigation, Field Crops, Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, and Zootechnics.

Under the Faculty of Technology: Computer Engineering (normal and M.T.O.K.), Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mechatronics Engineering.

Under the Faculty of Forestry: Forest Industry Engineering and Forestry Engineering.

Under the Faculty of Tourism (Eğirdir): Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Recreation Management, Tourism Management, and Tourism Guiding.

Associate Degree Programs: Numerous practice-oriented associate degree programs are offered within the vocational colleges. Major programs include Culinary Arts, Hunting and Wildlife Management, Banking and Insurance, Computer Programming, Information Security Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Foreign Trade, Electricity, Nursery Production, Food Technology, Occupational Health and Safety, Logistics, Machinery, Accounting and Tax Applications, Forestry and Forest Products, Health Institution Management, Civil Aviation Cabin Services, Medical and Aromatic Plants, and Aircraft Technology. Additionally, programs are offered through the Distance Education Vocational College.

International Activities

As part of its internationalization goals, the university supports student and staff mobility and actively participates in national and international exchange programs such as Erasmus+, Mevlana, and Farabi.

Bilateral Agreements: 108 agreements have been signed with institutions in 32 countries, and 51 cooperation protocols have been signed with institutions in 18 countries (2024 data).

Mobility: As of 2024, 65 staff members have undertaken short-term academic mobility abroad, and 35 international projects have been implemented. In the academic year, 121 students were sent abroad through Erasmus, and 51 students came to the university through Erasmus.

Support Mechanisms: To enable students to benefit from exchange opportunities, the university implements the Bologna Process, the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), and course equivalency procedures. ^【2】

The university has received various national and institutional awards in the areas of academic performance, research, societal contribution, and quality:

• URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance) Türkiye Ranking: The university has shown steady improvement in the URAP ranking (118th in 2022, 58th in 2025). ^【3】

• YÖK University Monitoring and Evaluation Report (2024): The university has entered Türkiye’s top 20 universities in the categories of “Research and Development” and “Projects and Publications”: ranked 3rd in number of academic staff publishing in indexed journals, 13th in number of projects supported by TÜBİTAK, and 18th in publications per academic staff member. ^【4】

• Student Satisfaction Survey: Ranked 23rd among 208 universities and 11th among public universities. ^【5】

• Accreditation: Five vocational colleges have received MEDEK accreditation.

• TÜBA-TEKNOFEST Doctoral Science Awards: An academic from the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, received the Third Place Award in the Basic Sciences category in 2025. ^【6】

• Isparta Year’s Best Awards (2022): The university received awards in four categories: Best Vocational Opportunity Department (Faculty of Technology), Social Contribution Award (Professional Education Model in Business), Nature Education Projects, and Education and Research Activities for Sustainable Agriculture. ^【7】

Student Life

The university supports students and academic staff through library services and access to both printed and electronic databases. Various student clubs, sports teams, and cultural activities are organized to promote students’ social and cultural development. Cafeterias and social spaces are available at both central and district campuses to meet students’ basic physical needs. Through the “Youth Program” implemented in collaboration with İŞKUR, students are provided with workforce experience opportunities.
